I'm a bit confused by the #
search function on #
Zap. To me search is integral to the experience, since it helps finding channels and posts outside your already existing network, with a view to extend that network.
So I tried some search terms but didn't find anything. Only when I used terms that I knew where in posts in conversations that I'm part of or were in my network, did I find those.
To further test I tried to locate public posts on this same server, so I could use their text to search for. Via the directory feature I found a local group about music, which had public posts I could read without being connected to the group, with terms like
song,
video,
YouTube, etc. Back in the search feature I entered those terms, but no posts at all were found.
The directory feature has settings for 'local only', 'only groups', 'safe mode', etc. I expected such settings to be the problem here. But the settings menu for the search feature is completely empty.
So I don't know how I'm going to be able to use it. As it is, it's the same as search on Mastodon where you also only can find your posts and those you interacted with.
